Cost of replacing an oil boiler with a heat pump in Ibiza

In short

Replacing an oil boiler with a heat pump costs according to output, emitters and what has to be removed. In 2026 this work can qualify for energy savings certificates (CAE) and income tax deductions, each with its own requirements.

What drives the price?

Replacing an oil boiler with a heat pump has three cost blocks:

  • The heat pump and its hot water cylinder, sized to the output the house needs.
  • Adapting the system: flushing the circuit, checking the radiators and, if needed, increasing electrical capacity.
  • Removing the old system: boiler, flue and oil tank.

What can be reused and how the work goes is explained in replacing your boiler with a heat pump.

How much does it cost by emitter type?

Indicative ranges for a complete replacement. Grants are not included.

Which items should the quote include?

ItemWhat it is
Heat pumpBrand, model, refrigerant and output
Hot water cylinderCapacity in litres, designed for heat pumps
Circuit flushingRemoving sludge and rust, plus a magnetic filter
RadiatorsWhich are replaced and why
Electrical workSupply line, protection and consumer unit changes
Boiler and flue removalTaken to an authorised waste handler
Oil tankEmptying, cleaning, making inert or removal
CommissioningFilling, bleeding and setting the heating curves
RegistrationPaperwork under the RITE
Grant paperworkCertificates and photos for the CAE and income tax, if requested

Which costs are not always visible?

  • Increasing the contracted electrical power: the oil boiler used very little electricity.
  • Oil left in the tank: used up before the work or removed.
  • Energy certificates before and after, if you want the income tax deduction.
  • Making good after removing the flue or the tank.
  • New radiators in rooms where the heat falls short.

Which grants are available in 2026?

How do you compare two quotes?

  1. Same output and same scope: heating, hot water and, if wanted, cooling.
  2. Radiators: which are kept and which are replaced, with the calculation behind it.
  3. Removal: whether the boiler, flue and tank are included, and what is done with the tank.
  4. Grants: whether the company prepares the CAE and income tax paperwork.
  5. Warranty and maintenance: see the maintenance guide.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to the oil tank?

It has to be emptied, cleaned and made inert or removed in line with the regulations. Any remaining oil can be used up before the work or removed. It is a separate item in the quote.

Do I have to replace the radiators?

Not always. We calculate how much heat each radiator gives at the heat pump's working temperature and only suggest replacing those that fall short.

Will I be paid for the energy saved?

Possibly. Replacing an oil boiler with a heat pump in a home is covered by sheet RES060 of the energy savings certificates (CAE): a company buys the savings achieved. There is no official amount; it depends on the calculated savings and the agreed price.

Can I deduct the work from my income tax?

Yes, if the work achieves the required energy improvement and this is proven with energy certificates from before and after. The 20 % and 40 % deductions cover work paid until 31 December 2026. Check with your tax adviser.

How long until the investment pays back?

It depends on what you spend on oil today, the electricity price and the grants you obtain. The calculator gives a first estimate. [DATO PENDIENTE: ejemplos de amortización validados por Climai Group]

How many days will I be without heating?

In a straight swap, with the indoor system in good condition, the interruption is usually short. If possible, it is best to do the work outside winter. [DATO PENDIENTE: plazos habituales de Climai Group]

Can I keep the boiler as a backup?

It is technically possible, but in Ibiza's climate a correctly sized heat pump does not usually need it. Also, the income tax deduction does not count the cost of equipment that burns fossil fuels.
