  1. Heat pumps in Ibiza, inside out.

Heating, cooling and hot water from a single R290 unit, installed by RITE-certified technicians.

  2. Open it up.

As you scroll, the unit comes apart.

  3. Every part, in plain sight.

Move the pointer near a part, or tap it, to see what it does.

  4. R290, a natural refrigerant.

A global warming potential of 0.02, compared with 675 for R32 (EU Regulation 2024/573).

Inside an outdoor unit

  1. Outlet grilleProtects the fan and sends the air outwards, away from the façade and the terrace.
  2. FanMoves outdoor air across the coil. It is variable speed: most of the time it turns slowly and stays quiet.
  3. Heat exchanger coilAluminium fins and copper pipes. This is where the refrigerant picks up energy from the outdoor air, in winter too.
  4. Inverter compressorThe heart of the cycle. It adjusts its speed to what the house needs instead of switching on and off.
  5. Control electronicsRuns the compressor, the fan and the expansion valve, and talks to the home thermostat.
  6. R290 refrigerantTechnical-grade propane: natural, with a global warming potential of 0.02. It is flammable, so it is always installed by a certified company.

Frequently asked questions

What is an air-to-water heat pump?

A system that takes energy from the outdoor air with a heat pump and uses it for heating, cooling and hot water. For every unit of electricity it uses, it delivers several units of heat.

Does it work well in Ibiza's climate?

Yes. The island's mild winters suit a heat pump well, and in summer the same unit cools the house.

Can I keep my radiators?

It depends on their size and operating temperature. Low-temperature or slightly oversized radiators usually work well; we check during the visit.

What is R290 and why do you use it?

It is technical-grade propane, a natural refrigerant with a global warming potential of 0.02, far below other common refrigerants. It is flammable, so it is always installed by a certified company.

Can I buy just the equipment?

Yes, in our online shop hvacibiza.com. It must be installed by a certified installation company; if you do not have one, we can do it.

Are there grants for installing a heat pump?

There may be: energy saving certificates, public programmes and municipal tax relief. We tell you which apply to your case before you sign.
